E. Gene Tenace emerged as the surprise hero of the 1972 Classic by hitting four home runs and knocking in nine of the 16 runs that Oakland scored in the seven-game Series. Tenace went on to a fine career with 201 home runs and a lifetime .391 on-base percentage.
