On January 2, 1912, Brooklyn Dodgers president Charles Ebbets announced the purchase of 4 1/2 acres to build a 23,000-seat concrete-and-steel stadium in the Pigtown section of Brooklyn, bordering Flatbush. Completed in just over a year, Ebbets Field was ready for Opening Day on April 9, 1913.
