BASEBALL HISTORY -- March 5

On March 5, 1922, Babe Ruth, beginning his third season in New York, became the highest-paid player in history when he signed a three-year contract for over $50,000 per season. Ruth was in a strong negotiating position -- in 1921 he hit a record 59 homers and drove in 171 runs.
